Here at Applestead Acres, we raise all-natural grass fed, grass finished beef, hand picked out of our own cow-calf herd. Our steers are always antibiotic free, and have NOT been given growth hormone implants. Also, our steers are never given grain or knowingly fed anything GMO. We are always striving to improve upon our genetics which has led to a higher quality cut of meat. We also choose our steers based on their thickness and gentle disposition (which leads to a more tender cut.) In our small family operation, we endeavor to try to raise them to organic, all-natural standards, as God intended, with the natural resources that we have available. We are not certified organic though.
Every fall is when we harvest our beef as we have come to the conclusion that this is the best time of the year. We have a working relationship with Smoky Hill Meat Processing in Victoria. They are a smaller, more personal, processor who are good at what they do. They let the meat hang longer than many other lockers do. This is actually a plus when it comes to grass fed, grass finished beef. Hang time in the cooler leads to a more tender cut of beef. They are also a newer facility, so the beef doesn’t “pick up” smells as is common with older coolers, no matter how clean they are. It is also the first meat locker that I have not had to fight the steers to get them to unload... a very low stress environment... which leads to more tender beef as well! We do not sell individual cuts, but offer on a 1/4, 1/2, or whole basis. The quarter beef is a split half.
We are located in the beautiful Blue Hills of North Central Kansas and strive to do all to the glory of God as we endeavor to produce an end product that is of upmost value and quality.
